Phillip J. Argento was appointed to the bench in 1982, and has more than 21 years experience as a state trial court judge. In 1997, he was given the "Trial Judge of the Year" award by the Pasadena Bar Association. His current assignment involves handling all phases of criminal misdemeanor cases.

He has taught Criminal Law part-time at Pasadena City College for several years. He was Chair of the Presiding Judges Association in the early 1990's and the Municipal Court Judges' Association immediately before the municipal courts were unified into the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Before becoming a judge, he did civil litigation for a large downtown Los Angeles law firm.

He is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Law, and has taught law school and community college courses in law. He is a past chair of Foothill Family Services, a Pasadena based social service agency. He is married with four children.
